How to switch to desktop when running PowerPoint slide show?

While using PPT slide show in full screen mode I want to "toggel" to the
desktop without closing the PPT slide show. I've seen this done but I don't
know how. What key sequence is used?
 
press the windows key+D
Minimizes all open windows and shows the desktop.

Pressing just the windows key brings up the windows taskbar.

For me windows D toggles back to the edit mode. Windows D and then alt tab
seems to work though. Maybe it depends how you open the presentation.
 
Mine minimizes all the windows on the first press of Win+D, but the second
press un-minimizes so that I'm looking at the edit window. If I'm using the
"Presenter View", I have to then manually open the presentation window, but
if I'm not using that I can just hit Alt-Tab twice to bring it back.
