How to stop xp from asking me to log in?

I don't know what I did but xp now has small windows telling me of its
status when shutting down, etc. and is now always asking me to log in with a
password. I just hit enter. How can I stop the log in from even appearing.
This is my home computer, it is running Windows XP Pro.
