How to stop Vista from turning my laptop on

Short of taking the battery out each time I power off -
How on earth do I do this? I've tried all the obvious stuff like disabling
wake on lan.

What brainiac at Microsoft though it was a good idea to have a laptop turn
it's self on anyway?
I understand the limitations of ACPI mean a "turn on" schedule cannot be set
for a date, just a time and so has to boot every day to check, - however I
want all times removed.
My Mac could do this reliably in 2001!
Any ideas?

This may be of use (event log):
The system has resumed from sleep.

Sleep Time: 22/06/2008 16:26:00
Wake Time: 22/06/2008 18:00:11

Wake Source: Power Button

Note: the lid was closed, I was at work and the house was empty. Maybe it's
the ghost or the CIA? Been watching too many X-Files DVDs :o)
Still any ideas, much appreciated.

But Macs cannot anymore. There is a bug in Leopard that turns on MacBooks
at 0 GMT under a number of scenarios. And they have not fixed it yet.

Maybe they are borrowing code from one another.

Could be a simple hardware defect (like the switch), so you might try
contacting the laptop manufacturer's support.

Well, it's not really Vista's fault, you know. Just because
an operating system dresses in short skirts and sheer tops doesn't mean
it's asking for that kind of attention. I'd send your laptop down to HR
and see if you can get it enrolled in a gender relations seminar. It needs
to learn to take responsibility for its own behavior instead of blaming
an innocent operating system for "making it" feel a certain way.

Or maybe a trip to the vet is in order? That worked for my cat.

Well I guess Macs are just PCs these days.... I stopped using them around OS
10.3 when it became apparent that I'd need to pay for an OS upgrade if I
wanted to develop using the latest version of Java (then 1.5)

Possible. But my laptop never turns it's self off (that's what pressing the
power button would do). Even when I leave it on with the lid closed.
