Hello Guys

On My Sony laptop I am getting error message when computer boot up.

SMART FAILURE PROTECTED ON HARD DRIVE: Toshiba MK8009GAH
Warning: Immediately back up your data and replace hard disk drive.
A Failure may be imminent
PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE

After I press F1 laptop starting normal and all working perfectly fine.
I understand that hard drive going bad and it can be gone some time soon ,
but for now there is any way I can stop this warning.
I heard it needs to be done from BIOS , I checked BIOS very carefully but I
don't see any option which will allow me disable SMART FAILURE DETECTION.

Please let me know if there is any other way to stop this warning

Contact Sony for the location of the SMART Enable/Disable in the BIOS.

Backup everything OFTEN if you plan on still using this until you get the
drive replaced. Doing anything but replacing the drive is just unwise.

you can stop the SMART in the bios, but not the warning.

why would you want to ignore the warning and not get the drive replaced.

best get the drive replaced before it PERMANENTLY crashes.

I've been using a old Maxtor 30GB hard drive now for over 5 years with
a S.M.A.R.T error warning that shows at boot. It started about 10
months into owning the drive (retail) from new. Couldn't be arsed to
do warranty return, just got over & done with a 5 month ordeal with a
19" monitor return. Drive tests fine except for the S.M.A.R.T. error.

Me thinks there may be a bug in the S.M.A.R.T. reporting.

I suffered two SMART failures. One last year on my Drive C and this
year on my D:. Follow the recommendations and backup your info. Then
replace the drive ASAP.

Well, ME thinks the "error" is cockpit error. I suppose everyone in the
world has all the same opinions you do too. Riigght!

SMART errors is telling you that the hard drive is developing, or has
developed, serious problems. You will need to take the computer to
your local computer repair centre and have them transfer you file onto
a newer hard drive. You hard drive will fail and you will loose
everything.

It (S.M.A.R.T.) was trying to tell you that your drive was in imminent
danger of failing. Instead of fiddling about trying to kill the
messenger by stopping the SMART message the prudent thing to do would
have been to heed the message and immediately take steps to prepare for
the imminent failure, you should have backed up all your data and imaged
the drive in preparation for its replacement. If you don't have a
backup or an image of the drive the more you keep on fiddling with the
failing drive the less likely you are to ever recover anything on it,
the drive is on its way out, it's on its death bed.

Could be that the HP is looking for a "HP" sold drive. Some makers
might "hide' code into the drive so that they have "more" control
