how to stop notepad from adding .txt to filename

Hello,

It seems that no matter what I do, including selecting
the "all files" option, when saving a file that was newly
created, notepad adds the .txt extension to the file name.

I DO NOT WANT THAT. It is maddening.

Does someone know how to fix this?

Thank you,

Are you specifically adding the extension? You'll need to type
"<filename>DOT<extension>", otherwise the ".txt" will be added
automatically.

There is a way! Change the file type to "all files" and add a . at the end
of the file name. The file will be saved with no extension (and no .).

If you leave it as "text type, then you get "yourname..txt"
