How to stop multiple copies of emails

I have recently been receiving multiple (up to twenty or
more) copies of emails.

I have checked my accounts settings and they are all
configured to delete messages on the server (i.e. not
leave messages...)

I have also checked using web mail and there are
definitely not multiple copies - the problem is with
Outlook.

One unusual feature is that this does not happen to all
emails, just some of them. However, as I receive up to 200
emails every day (mostly spam, this is a big problem)

This is a recent occurrence (since I installed Office
2003!) - the problem did not show up with the beta.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check if it still happen when your firewall/virusscanner is disabled (make
sure that there are no virusmails pending on your webbased mailclient). It
is very likely that the conformation packets from Outlook to your SMTP
server are blocked by the firewall (which could still be configured for your
earlier version of Outlook making it logical that it stopped working with
Outlook 2003).

Roady,

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. I'm using Winproxy and so I tried
what you suggested and disabled the firewall, but I still receive multiple
copies of the same email.

Here's a copy of my post:

I recently purchased new machine w/ XP Pro and Office 2003 Pro. Prior to
that I was using Office 2000 without any problems.

Outlook 2003 has an account on my internal Exchange 5.5 server as well as an
external SMTP/POP3 server (VPOP3). The SMTP/POP3 server is the server I use
for Internet mail.

The sporadic problems I am having thus far include;

- multiple copies of the same message being received and not removed from
the SMTP/POP3 server. Sometimes 17 copies of the same message will appear in
the Inbox, other times, only a single copy may arrive, other times, there
may be 4 copies, etc., etc.

- multiple copies of an outbound email with an attachment being delivered
multiple times to the same recipient. In this case, the outbound message
never moves from the "Outbox" to the "Sent Items" folder and must be
manually deleted so that it does not get sent multiple times.

- Email that I can see on the SMTP/POP3 server via a web interface waiting
to be picked up, never appear in Outlook but are removed from the server.

I've never experienced these issues before with Outlook 2000 and I'm certain
they are not a result of the SMTP/POP3 server.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

TIA.

Todd.
