Does anyone know how to stop this damn software from
installing itself into your boot up sequence? I just want
to run the program when I choose not when they do but
despite the fact that all the 'real time protection'
features have been set to inactive I cannot find anything
which stops it from starting again on reboot. This is
madness, even Norton for all its many faults give you an
option in the tools menu to not restart automatically on
reboot. Any ideas would be welcome, thanks

Use the Windows command "msconfig", click tab "Startup", and uncheck the
entry gcasServ

Robin Walker's method works, and so does the "workaround" paragraph in this
KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892375 End users may be prompted to allow or
block administrative actions that originate from a central management tool
after they install Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) on a computer that is managed
by Systems Management Server 2003
