Help!
My machine is being bombarded with executables that get
automatically downloaded as I surf the web. Then, of
course, they generate so much traffic on my pc that the
web speed slows to a crawl, basically disabling the
computer.

Is there any settings in Windows 2000 to automatically
disable any automatic downloads of any kind?

thanks!

Yes. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools, Security (or something like that)
and turn off all kinds of scripting.

Also get Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de, and run it, to clean this stuff up.

And update Windows!!!

As Michael mentioned run a parasite removal program on your computer first
in addition to the usual virus scan [you do that ?] with the latest
definitions. You can take advantage of Web Content Zones to configure
security for various zones. I set my "internet" zone to high and then add my
trusted sites to the trusted zone where I set security at medium. You also
may want to go into tools/internet options/advanced and uncheck "enable
install on demand -other". Be sure to use a firewall and other protection
methods as described in the links below. --- Steve
