How to stop auto B/U of *.doc's ?

Win98SE and/or Word 97 have been making uneccesary back-
ups of my Word 97 documents [back-up of etcetera.wbk] and
filing them in [My Documents] folder.

How would it be possible to stop this?

Clear the "Always create backup copy" option on the Save tab of Tools |
Options. But before you do that, read

Choose Options on the Tools menu. On the Save tab clear the Always
create backup copy check box.
