Hi Garlise,
First, do you have PowerPoint installed on your computer? I know that
sounds silly, but PowerPoint is not a part of the Windows operating system
and does not ship with every computer that is sold. It is a part of the MS
Office collection of applications. Even so, just to make things a bit more
confusing, not all versions of Office contain PowerPoint. So the first
thing to do is figure out if you have it installed. Probably the easiest
first step is to look under the default Start placement -- click on your
Start Menu => All Programs => Microsoft Office => Microsoft Office
PowerPoint 2007. Different versions may have slightly different names, but
you get the idea. If this is not there, you probably do not have PowerPoint
installed, but lets do one final check before you run out to the store and
buy a copy. Click on Start => Search => In the filename box type
"PowerPnt.exe" (without the quotes) => click on Search. Sit back, fold
laundry, or go nuke a hot pocket to kill the time while the computer looks.
If it does not find any programs (shown in the large white box on the right)
then you will need to install PowerPoint.
If you need to install it and have a fast-ish connection to the internet,
you may want to download the free trial version of the new PowerPoint 2007.
The limited time trial should get you past this current homework assignment,
but will probably not last until the next one, so budget wisely. Here is
the link to start the download (lots of time to do more laundry while its
downloading).

I would recommend using the time the download is running to start planning
out the presentation. Use pencil and paper to draw rough ideas and plan out
the show before running PowerPoint. The second worst mistake that most
users make in PowerPoint is lack of a overall plan.
If you need more help getting the program to open, holler back and we'll
step you thru it some more.
In case you wanted to know the worse mistake most users make with
PowerPoint, it is reading word-for-word from the slide when presenting.
