my shutdown menu doesn't appear to have the same options
I'm used to.

In XP, I'm not seeing an option for "restart in Safe Mode"

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks

You can access the Advanced Options menu, and Safe Mode,
by pressing F8 at the menu that prompts you to choose an
operating system. (If Windows starts without displaying a
startup menu, press F8 after your system finishes
displaying startup messages from the BIOS but before the
Windows logo appears.)

Hope this helps!

Hi Steve,

You can go to "Start" and type "msconfig" in the Run line and choose
"Diagnostic Startup" or you can reboot and hit F8 before XP starts.

Gary,
Only one quarrel with your reply. If he has a keyboard connected via USB,
the F (Function) keys are not enabled in time for the F8 key to bring up the
advanced menu from which to select Safe mode. This seems to be a basic
system flaw in XP since many keyboards now require a USB hookup to perform
all their functions. It appears to me that enabling Safe Mode is impossible
in XP without using the System Configuration Utility beforehand to select it
as the next Startup. If am wrong, enlighten me.
