How to split WMM2 avi's in CD-sized chunks?

I have looked for about two weeks to fins a good chopper
that can split the captured tape - now a huge avi - into
parts that fit on a CD. I'd prefer to save the material on
CD rather than tape. All third pary versions I've found
refuses to deal with the Microsoft avi. Anyone got an idea?

Hi there,

Well it might take a little trial and error, but its simple enough. You can
import your video to MM2 and using the cut option (Right hand side of the
timeline) you can create segment of video and then with very, very little
loss in quality you can save that segment in WMV format. Now because you
are converting to a fairly high compression format the section of video
will obviously take up a lot less space...so the trial and error would be
determining where to cut the video....please not that when I say cut the
video that I do not mean literally.

Your other alternative is yo save the same clip back to hard drive as
DV-AVI, which means no loss of quality at all, well none that the average
human could detect anyway.

Hi again,

I seem to have not quite understood your question. The answer is contained
within my previous remarks...which now boil down to Use Movie Maker 2 to
create clips of the desired size by making use of the "Cut" option,
discarding the unwanted section and "SAVE TO FILE" the remaining section.
Repeat those steps until all sections are saved in your d4esired format
