Is there any way to increase the speed of a dialup RAS
connection?

When I connect to my Win2K Server via dialup, I seem only
to be able to achieve a connect speed between 21.6Kbps and
28.8kbps.

The modems at both ends (server and remote PC) are 56K
modems.

Yes they have a download capacity of 56k. But whats with the upstream?
I think modems have only 33k upload speed. With a little protocol
overhead the speed of 21k - 28k is the maximum of the modem line.

I ran into the same problem. I could never get the RAS connection over 28.8,
I switched to an internet VPN much faster, cheaper and allowed more user
simultaneously.

As Marco pointed out, anything like 56k is only possible when
downloading from a machine with a digital interface (such as an ISP).
Analog-to-analog connections have a max. transfer rate of 33.6 , and 28.8
is about average in the real world.
