Hi,

on a site i manage 10 computers running win2ksp4 latest
updates. Since last week most them take about 10 minutes
to logoff.
I found this in the app log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 18/Aug/03
Time: 12:54:21 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer:
Description:
Windows cannot unload your registry file. If you have a
roaming profile, your settings are not replicated. Contact
your administrator.

DETAIL - Access is denied. , Build number ((2195)).

I've searched the knowledge base but they just say to
apply the latest sp.

How can i solve this problem?

TIA

Roy

run gpedit.msc

Computer Config - Administrative Templates - System - Logon - Enable 'Maximum retries....' and set it to about 5...

Not a fix, just a workaround.

Do you know how many fixes and patches Microsoft has put out for
this exact issue? I can no longer count the number of times using
my appendages.

And although some of them worked some of the time and all of them might
have worked one time, none of them have worked all of the time... :-)

Even the promised "will be fixed in SP4" has panned out.

OP
Try stopping the spooler service prior to logoff. From Services GUI or
command-line: net stop spooler.
That works in many (or some) cases.

I got so fed up I put everything I could into a StopSrv.cmd batch file.
Sheesh!

goto Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs > Change/Remove Programs
and see if Q329170 is
listed as an
update if it is remove it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration>
Administrative Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user
profile ... set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS (thanks Neo)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.
