On my WinMe machine there is an icon in the taskbar to show desktop. I
don't find this on my XP machine. Is this available and, if so, how do I
go about getting to my desktop when I am in a program?
Thanks

I don't remember how to recreate that icon, but pressing Win-M minimizes all
windows, and Win-D also does that, but by pressing it again, the screen
returns to how it was before all windows got minimized...

You may need to enable the Quick Launch toolbar. Right-click the taskbar,
make sure "Lock the Taskbar" is unchecked. R-click again, Toolbars/Quick
Launch.

Hugh,
Thanks. That did the trick. The default setup did not show the quick
launch icons.

In addition, when the Quick Launch toolbar is enabled a chevron shows to the
right of the visible Quick Launch icons. Click on this to see additional
icons. If the Show Desktop icon then appears you may drag it onto the
visible area to change its order of appearance.

It should also be noted that you don't need the quick launch to be enabled to
see the desktop. Simply right click on the taskbar and then click "show
desktop" and there it is. Another excellent way of accessing the desktop
without having to actually show the desktop is to make it appear like the
start\all programs. In order to do this you right click on the taskbar and
then click the toolbars and then put a checkmark beside "desktop". Now you
have a desktop tool bar that you can open by clicking the double chevron that
appears to the left of your system tray and just to the right of the word
Desktop by the system tray. This give access to all your desktop
shortcuts\files\folders and so on without having to actually close the window
you are looking at. Cheers.

Hugh,
Thanks. That was the problem.
