A friend of mine helped set up the wireless network between our laptop
and desktop...both share the internet connection and we use 1 folder
to move files between the 2 computers.
Sees like we should be able to do a llot more.

How do I set it up so external HD connected to the desktop is
available to the laptop through the network??

Can my daughter access the desktop printer from the laptop?

Go to MVP Jack's website or Pchuck's website for instructions.
Help & Support also provides instructions.

Yes. Read the instructions on the two websites above.
Some printers require you to install the software on the laptop as well.
Consult the fine manual
for the printer.

1. For the external hard drive, just go its icon in My Computer (from
the desktop where it is connected). Right-click and then choose Sharing.
Share the drive. Since you mention that you "use 1 folder to move
files..." I'm assuming that you've already got sharing set up correctly.

2. For the printer, go to the Printers applet in Control Panel (from the
desktop where it is connected). Right-click the icon for the printer and
choose Sharing. Share the printer. Some printers (like HP's) require you
to install the printer drivers on each computer that will use the
printer so you may need to put your printer CD in your daughter's laptop
and install the drivers.

Thanks Malke! We are moving her stuff from laptop to external HD in
advance of sending it for repair as I type!

Excellent! I'm glad that sorted things for you. Thanks for taking the
time to let me know.

We got up this morning and her 15.6 GB of Docs and Settings tfr to external
HD had stalled...some file name was 23 characters long and it wouldn't tfr.
So I clicked OK to and the rest of the copy stopped! It LOOKs like we got
most of it but it wasn't finished.

It didn't give the name of the file...just that a file was too long.
