How to share Documents and Settings folders on LAN?

I need to share "c:\Documents and Settings" folders and also "c:\Program
Files" folders across my home LAN, from my WinXP Pro SP2 Dell 8300 PC.
But no matter how I set up Sharing, these directories are not accessible
through the LAN. How can this be done?

I set Sharing, even set Security to fully Allow all groups or users, for
these directories, but they're still not accessible. Am trying to
access it from my Dell Latitude laptop running Win2K.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find that - even with simple file sharing disabled - those
can't be shared. No sharing desktops, no sharing applications (they wouldn't
work anyhow more than likely) either, and that's what the shared documents
are for. Moving stuff around to be shared via RealVNC is how I get around
that here on my LAN.

Thanks.

No, I don't want to share apps. I just need to access some other files.

E.g., I use the SeaMonkey browser/email suite on two PCs (desktop and
laptop), and I just want to be able to move email files between the
systems; SeaMonkey puts those files in the Documents and Applications
folders, which aren't accessible over the LAN.

Then they're not accessible. Check with that program and its settings to see
if you can move its store folder to a location that can be shared. Profiles
are "sacred" and not shared. If you want to share them you'd need to take
ownership of them, every time you switched, which would be a tricky feat
over a LAN.
