Hi, I tried to open an access database from another computer in our internal
network. But it is failed.
I have no idea how to set the access database be shared among computers in
our network. And, is it possible just limit some of the networked computers
have rights on the access database or just protected the database by
password?

The network is consisted of XP home edition computers and some windows 2000
computers.

Thanks!

What kind of error message did you see? There's a lot of
things that can go wrong when running Access across a
network. Here's a few things to check:

-- Is this a LAN or a WAN? Access doesn't run well
across a WAN.

-- Go to Tools, Options, Advanced and see if the default
open mode is set to shared or exclusive. If it's set to
exclusive, the first user may get in and all other users
will get errors.

-- Are you using linked tables? If you are, all users
have to get to the database via the same logical drive
letter and folder name structure. Internally, Access hard-
codes the path to the database(s) containing the linked
tables. If different users have different network
mappings, errors will result.

-- Are multiple users trying to make changes to the
design of system objects? In Access 2000 and higher, you
can't have multiple users and object changes taking place
without Developer Edition and MS Source Safe. See
knowledge base article 200290 for more info.

Hope this helps.

*This may be my problem. Thanks for the information!
