We have some windows 2000 PC who belong same group. A
printer is connected a computer (LPT1) and worked well.
Other PC want to share the printer. Though network
neighbor,we found the printer and connected to it.
Everything is OK. But after restarting computers, we found
the connection was broken. It is necessary to make a re-
connectionn between the printer and computers. It is very
unconvenient. How to solve the problem?

On the client machines, navigate to your printer
properties, then ports. Choose "add port", then "local
port", then in this format "\\server_name\share_name"
Where the server name is the name of the host and the
share name is the name you have given the printer for
sharing purposes.

Good Luck

Terry's suggestion is fine as an alternative, but that is not how it is
designed to work.

If you add a Local Port, you are making the network printer look like a
local printer. You will not get any of the benefits of network printer, such
as it saving the default settings on the server for all clients.

If you installed the printer through Network Neighborhood, that should work.
This has the same result as adding a network printer with the Add Printer
Wizard.

Make sure that you are right-clicking on the shared printer in Explorer and
choosing Install. Then make sure that it is shown in the Printers folder. It
will have a name like "share on server".

What exactly is the problem? You say "the connection was broken. It is
necessary to make a re-connectionn between the printer and computers". What
do you mean by this?
