Hi,

I am trying to setup a new SATA HD on my PC. I bought the drive so I
could take advantage of the slight speed increase on the drive and not
for RAID. I heard that the drive could be set in a non-RAID
configuration but it is not working for me. The SATA HD will not be
for booting.

I had enabled the RAID bios, installed the the drivers for it, but the
drive does not show up under Computer Management. If I look at the
hardware devices on My Computer, propterties, I do see a SCSI drive
listed.

Can someone give me guideance as to what I am doing wrong? Am I wrong
about how I want to use this drive?

Thanks,
Dave

Yes, it will show up in SCSI.

Go to "control panel / performance and maintenance / administrative
services / computer management / disk management

Format the drive, reboot...

FYI

Well, that's my problem is that I know under computer management I have
seen unformatted drives listed here, but it does not show me the SATA
drive at all.

Even using the drive in a non-RAID setup you may need to configure the
disk as an "array" in order for it to show up..

Since I don't have another drive plugged into the RAID IDE connector, I
can only configure this drive for striping. When I do that, the
computer just hangs at a black screen after the post. There doesn't
seem to be any other configuration options. What should I try next?

I'm running with a SATA. I trouble a bit getting it up and getting it
to boot (I had a PATA connected at the same time). But it works now
(but it's slow, the old PATA in an external USB2 case is faster :-)

I can check the BIOS settings if you like next time I boot.
