How to set Win Explorer Default View to Details?

I hate the default (big icons) view in Win Explorer. I
want to see all of the information (file dates, etc.).
Currently I have to go through a tedious process of
redefining the custom view for every single directory on
the system.

That can't be my only option. If it is, then MS must be
insane.

How do I set a global preference for a detail view. If I
want to see big icons and file previews in a particular
directory, I'll ask for them.

Thanks for your help!

Open Windows Explorer into some folder. Set it to show details. Now go to
Tools | Folder Options. Select the View tab. Click "Like Current Folder."
