Is there a way to automatically set Windows sound volume at a desired level
so that when the PC is booted, it doesn't come on loud?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
To set the system master volume, click on start and click on control panel.
In the control panel, click on 'Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices' and then
click on 'adjust the system volume'. In the following dialog box, you can
adjust the volume by sliding the slider according to your wish.

this doesn't answer the question and i wish it did cause i would like the
same feature as my kid likes to blast the computer!

is there a way to always have the volume come on at a pre-set level? my
child loves to blast it then turn off the computer. it would be nice if it
defaulted to a low volume when i come along and turn it on. get it?!
thanks!

Exactly, that's what I meant, too. Say I'm sitting here listening to music
at a higher-than-normal volume while the kids are dancing around the
livingroom. I forget to turn the volume down, and later on when I reboot (or
whoever uses the system after me) the volume is still set to 'bust'. I'd
like to have a utility installed that will set the volume to a certain level
on every boot/reboot, or maybe if the PC is on all the time, it will set the
volume at specific times. If there were some sort of command line options
for sndvol.exe, we'd be all set...
