How to set up two workgroups

I've had my laptop for over 4 years. Unfortunately my memory is much shorter
than that. Recently I had a hard drive failure and have recovered most
things. One thing I haven't redone is having two workgroups listed in the
Windows Network.

I have one workgroup for home defined in the system info to match the
desktop the family uses. I also volunteer my time ($, etc) at our town office
as web master and Access DB person. Before the hard drive crash I had
-somehow- set up a workgroup (I don't think it was domain) for the town
desktop. So when I took my laptop to the office to transfer the changes to
the front-end DB or web pages via wireless connection; the Microsoft Windows
Network in the My Network Places/Entire Network the town workgroup and home
workgroup both was listed. I was able to simply click on the town workgroup
and was able to access the shared folders to do the transfers. I'm not trying
to use the multiple workgroups at the same time, simply having them listed to
select the appropriate one. I did not have to go into my system info and
change the workgroup name each time between the house and office.

How'd I do it? I've looked in the KB and newsgroups and the postings are for
trying to use multiple workgroups at the same time (not what I'm trying to do)

Thanks
Jim T.

You don't need to do anything, when you connect your laptop into the
workgroup at the town office you just need to drill down in the My
Network Places ->Entire Network ->Microsoft Windows Network and the name
of both workgroups will show up, you may find that it may take a bit
more time to display the workgroups when you are connected to a network
with multiple workgroups, (it may take up to 15 minutes). This is
strictly Workgroup stuff, we aren't talking about domains here, if the
town is running on a domain this won't work.

It's not really a matter of the computer being slow it's just how the
Master Browser handles announcements on the network. If the workgroup
doesn't show up after 15 minutes check to make sure that the machines
are in the same subnet. Also make sure that firewalls are not the
problem, see if you can ping by IP address and computer name. See if
you can access the computers from the Start Menu Run box by using UNC
path: \\ComputerName\ShareName Look in the Event Log to see if there
are any Master Browser errors.
