I'm looking for a convenient way to back up my Word files
and Outlook Express e-mails. Is there a system for this
in Windows XP or do I need to buy some software? If so,
what is a good kind to buy for Windows XP?

thanks for any help

If you have OEM software the answer is, NO, you do not have Backup!!!

If you have Microsoft Original Software the answer is, YES, it is on your
disc/cd.

Not sure exactly where, but it is on it, maybe if you repost your request
an MVP will explain this reasoning.

You feel a bit ripped off when you realise that what you thought you bought
was not actually the full or same version as Microsoft advertises.

I mean Hewlett Packard didn't have colorful advertising on the box stating
that it was
an adapted scaled down version so that HP or Microsoft/veritas can sell you
yet another program
to enable you to " Michael Solomon MS-MVP Windows Shell/User Backup is a PC
User's Best Friend "
backup your pc.

I use WinBackup from http://www.liutilities.com/ and it works great.

This is *not* correct. Complete generic OEM versions of XP
include the backup utility, and just as with retail versions,
it's installed automatically in XP Professional, but not with XP
Home.

Proprietary OEM versions, provided by particular OEMs, may or may
not have the backup utility included.

Installed automatically with Professional (Start | Programs |
ACcessories | System Tools | Backup) and with Home can be
installed manually from the CD, in \ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP
