How to send message from system to system in different network

hi,
I would like to send message from one system to another in two differnt
network
I have one system in different network(not in LAN but may be WAN) and
another system on LAN , both system have different default Gateway,
subnetmask are different and both system have there own servers of respective
networks, My question to you is how do I send message from system to system
which are entirely in different networks, if I want to share any document
between these two system there is another system in my network through which
I am able to share documents between two systems via 3system.
What are the things I need to change in subnetmask or defaultgateway to
access directly or send message directly between two systems.
If any doubts I shall reply immediately.

Thanks in advance
Ram

Thanks in advance

You probably have to set up a Virtual Private Network between the
two networks.

It might be a good idea to explain in some more detail what you're
actually trying to achieve. Your Subject line speaks about "sending
messages" between two networks whereas your post mentions
"sharing documents". That's not quite the same thing!

I shall be interested pegasus, as I am about to set up a link to two of my sons
in UK. From time to time I need/want to share photos, some as large as 40MB and
I only have 30Mb webspace. At the moment I have an active no-ip but lost memory
about how to operate that except to get the address from there. I am running a
D-Link router 504G. I have lot of diskspace and could allocate G:drive at 90GB
for the purpose. Incidentally I think I have you to thank for getting me to use
Acronis, the best tool I have ever used.

Glad you like Acronis!

The easiest way to transfer your files directly would be to use
Remote Desktop. This is available as long as one of the two
parties uses WinXP Professional. Is this the case?

No I am afraid it gets even worse. One of the sons is a Photograper and
therefore thinks the world of his Mac.
I have been into DSL-504 Setup and I get

Home, Advanced, Tools, Status, Help
Home gives you access to run the Wizard
Advanced gives choices of Virtual Server, Filters, Routing, Firewall, Rip, PPP,
ADSL, ATM VCC

Like the other top line menu items there are a lot of choices and non of them
seem to work.

From the help items it seems very likely that it should be able to set up easily
as an FTP server as advised on
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300662&sd=tech
as long as I can get the menu to work.

My experience in setting up an FTP server is far too limited
to be of use when offering advice. I recommend you start a
thread of your own with an appropriate subject line.

Use mail servers to send messages, and a VPN to share files.
