I have a small peer-to-peer local area Windows 2000 network consisting of 8
computers. On this network are two gateway routers. There is no server
software.
One router connects the LAN to a private government network. The other
router connects the LAN to the Internet.
The interface to the Government network is the default gateway and it uses a
variety of ports including port 80 for Intranet web pages.
The sole purpose of the Internet interface is for e-mail so port 25 and 110
are open. I also want to be able to access only the Windows update site
from the LAN which uses port 80 on the Internet interface.
My plan is to make a manual, persistent entry in the routing table of each
Windows 2000 computer that points to the address of the Internet gateway
when there is a request for the Windows Update Site. How do I determine the
IP address for this and how do I make the entry?
