how to see when win xp was first started

You mean when the operating system was installed or the last time a user
logged on?? You can check the date/time of the \Windows folder via Windows
Explorer to see when the operating system was installed or check the
security log via Event Viewer to see when a user last logged on by looking
at the logon events. Type eventvwr.msc in the run box and then hit OK to
open Event Viewer. Below is an example of a user logon event. Type 2
indicates the user logged on via the keyboard. --- Steve

wow steven. thanks a lot for your help.
yes i wanted to know when a user first logged in.

i opened event viewer, but i discovered that the default size for log files
for security is 512kb. i think older events have already been overwriteen.
can i recover them? now i can't see when the computer was first used.

thanks,

lawrence
