How To search with special characters in the string

C

Chuck

I am trying to search (e.g. contacts) for items that contain the string "M&I".

When I type this as a search scring the "&" is interperted as an "AND" and I
get all entries that have both a M and I. Not at all what I am looking for.

What do I have to put into the search field to get the "proper" results.

Thanks,

C

Chuck

I am running Outlook 2007.
I get the same results with Advanced Find.

Outlook 2007 Instant search will only search for M&I if the word begins with
it. It will not find it if its in the word, like WM&I.

Did you try "M&I", with quotes?

It is not finding M&I - In this case this is a complete word in several of my
contact entries. It is finding all contact entries that have the character
"M" AND "I" regardless of where they are in the entry (i.e. "m" can be in one
word and "I" can be in another.

I have tried surrounding it with all combinations of both single and double
quotes. For example - "M&I", 'M&I', '"M&I"', '"M&I"'

Are you using desktop search? Did you try rebuilding the index?

In my tests with the newest desktop search engine installed, M&I (no spaces)
works perfectly in Instant Search (assuming the company name has no spaces).
M & I need quotes to find the right contacts. It works as expected on the
Advanced tab of Advanced search - no quotes find contacts whose company
begin with Mi.

I am not using desktop search. I am using the search built into Outlook
2007. So per my example, I go to "Contacts". Not at the very top, there is
a title bar in the contacts pane that says "Contacts" on the left and a text
entry box on the right that says "search contacts". This is what I am using.

Is this search(above) and desktop search related? If yes, can you tell me
where I find the latest version of desktop search?

As you have suggested,
I have installed desktop search.
Built/Rebuilt indexes.
The problem has not changed.
