WinXP Home useless files such as install setups and so forth.

Reason is my Windows primary drive is now at 6.3 gig with
most programs installed on the D drive adjacent to the Primary.

I have run a defrag and clean up of the WinXP drive to little avail.

There must be unwanted or useless install fragments left over on
this drive.

Please note that I have re-installed WinXP three days ago.

Your assist is most welcome.

Without knowing how big your drive is, I don't think you're going to
get any responses or suggestions. Deleting Restore points except the
last one will give you a lot more space. Use it in Disk Cleanup. Also
cut the size (settings) for Restore Points from the 12% to about 5%

That's your problem right there. A clean install of XPSP2 takes up about
2.25GB all by itself. Then you need a swap file (pagefile) of about 2GB
just for Windows to move around in. Even though you've installed your
programs on another partition (or drive), the programs need to have
files on the system partition. You can turn off System Restore (not
recommended because it can be very useful) and that will save you some
space. A better solution would be to buy a bigger hard drive. I
personally wouldn't install XP on a smaller partition than 10GB and
with hard drives so cheap now, there really isn't any reason to.
