Hi!
We have a product that requires Java 1.1.8 to function properly. It's
quite embarassing that it's required, but oh well..
We have two XP machines. On both, JRE 1.4.2 is installed. On one
machine, we installed 1.1.8 and un-checked the "Use Java 1.4.2" from the
advanced tools menu. Restarting the browser, it appears to now be
using 1.1.8. Superb!
The problem is that on the other machine, we cannot get IE to use JRE
1.1.8. This is from the exact same archive, and the OS's are both SP'ed
and very similar in almost every way.
Does anyone know the algorithm IE uses for determining which JRE to use
for it's applets? After unchecking, rebooting, and hitting an applet,
the Java2 Webstart pops up, and the console still shows 1.4.2. Obviously
not what we want.
Googling on the issue hasn't helped.
Anyone who can help will be thanked appropriately! :0)
TIA!
