hi:

my computer was shut down due to a power outage and i
lost all of my files and data. is there a way for be to
get all of these things back? how can i find all my files
and data that i created?

i have already setup my printer and because of the power
outage it also will not work. is there a way that i can
get this to work without having to reuse the disk?

1) Does the computer boot normally now ?
2) Are you talking about files that you created that used
to be accessible through My Documents ? Others ?
3) Is the printer powered on ? Have you tried to print a
test page ?

Post back . . .

Very likely your hard drive was writing data at the moment
the power failed and it screwed the hard drive. That is why
some form of UPS is essential to computer users.

You can boot the computer with the XP CD and open the
recovery console and copy any files you can read to a
floppy. No need to try to save anything that is already
backed up or available on the market, such as your
applications CDs.

If there is a lot of data and it is valuable enough to you,
there are commercial recovery services such as DriveSavers
www.drivesavers.com They also have some suggestions on
their website for how to preserve or recover data.
