Hi there

I stupidly imported an archive file (pst file) from my old computer into my
new computer's outlook program. It's an old email I'm no longer using and I
really didn't want to import all the settings/folders etc. Now its imported
all the folders settings etc and everytime i open outlook i get an error
message cos it cant connect to that email etc..

I just want to go back to how it was before - i.e. the program defaults
before I did that.. but i cant seem to do it. I don't really want to
uninstall all of office - is there anyway to get back to the original outlook
settings so it isn't looking for these archive folders and so it doesn't have
all the individual folders etc etc

any ideas?
thanks
Nancy :)

What settings are you referring to? Importing a .pst file does not change any of Outlook's settings.

What error message are you seeing?

sorry, what i mean is it's imported all the folders under "outlook today"
personal folders e.g. email folders etc and when i open outlook it says:

"the path specified for the file xxxxx.pst is not valid"

cos the file is from my ext hard drive i guess which I don't have plugged in
all the time.

I want outlook to stop looking for that pst file and I want to lose all the
folders and go back to the default set up for email etc etc

thanks
Nancy :)

Go to File | Data File Management and remove it there. If that doesn't work, connect your external drive, and try again.

thanks will give that a try.

will that just remove it from outlook or will it delete the actual pst file?
I'd quite like to keep teh pst file on the ext drive in case I do ever need
to access those emails in the future, i just dont want them in outlook at the
moment

:)

Outlook cannot delete a .pst file. Deleting a .pst file can be done only through the WIndows Explorer interface.
