My radeon 9700 is not well!
So I've got hold of a 9800 Pro.

Apart from swapping the cards in my PC :-)
what do I need to do regarding the Cat drivers?

Do I need to uninstall the whole lot, remove the 9700, add the 9800
and then re-install the drivers?

Or can I simply plug and play.

If it makes any difference, I'm using Cats which are a probably
about 2 months old.

Pete

Since you are already using cat drivers I would just plug it in, boot and
download the latest drivers to update the 9800. That should do it. If that
doesn't work then just uninstall the old drivers and reinstall the new
anyways. You'll be alright! :-)

I swapped from an 8500DV to AIW9800SE just by plugging and playing...
Then removed all the Cats and stuff and installed the latest Cats.
Partly to see if I could to be honest!
No problem.

You'll probably be okay, the Cats have contained the drivers for a
very wide range of cards for quite a while now. Probably why they're
so flipping big!

But if it doesn't work you can easily put the 9700 back in, remove the
cats, do the reboot to complete removal, shut down, swap the cards and
start again.

Why would he need to put the old card back in? If Windows doesn't like the
old drivers it will just load the default standard Windows driver. I'd just
slap the new card in, boot up,then remove the old drivers and install the
new 4.12 that just came out. I don't think it works to just stick the new
card in and not install the correct drivers for it. It's not that much of a
hassle to install new drivers.
Just makes sure you get the drivers that have the old style control panel,
not the new Control Center. ATI has both versions right on their front page
if your running XP. JLC

take card out, put card in, boot windows, it will detect new card, load
whatever cat drivers you have installed, you may want to reboot, you
shouldn't have to though really
