You can't.. the name in the storyboard comes from the clip's name in the
collection.... once moved into the storyboard, you can't change it without
renaming it in the collection and bringing it into the project again.

Well, the problem is when I split off a clip and combine it with the next
one it seems to carry the first name with it - and that clip's name has
nothing to do with the second clip...
Right.. .once a clip has a name in the timeline, splitting it clones the
name... that's one reason to do gross splitting and renaming in the
collection before they get to the project.
