How to remove voice recognition

I recently had to re-format my hard drive and I am slowly getting my programs
back up and running again. When I started to use Front Page 2003, I noticed
while in design view that words were being typed on the page without me doing
anything. After running around like crazy trying to find out what was
causing this, I found out that the MS Office "Voice recognition" was the
culprit. Any sound at all would cause the thing to start typing and it was
really messing things up.

So, my question is this. What MS Program is this part of? so that I can get
rid of it? They told me on the Office Discussion Forum that its part of
FP2003. Is that correct and if so, how do I delete it?

It's not part of FrontPage, it's part of Office. Try going into
Tools|Speech. I'd test it for you but I don't want to go thru the set-up
process and then stop it.

(My husband tried using it for Excel. He was going along fine until one day
the cats were misbehaving and he yelled at them. When he looked at his
spreadsheet, it had "Alright, you two! Knock it off!" He turned off Speech.

Now that has some interesting implications. ;-)

Friend of mine installed it and started setting it up after spending a couple of hours at "Happy
Hour."
When he went to do some more with it the next day it wouldn't recognize his voice.
So he uninstalled it and started over, figured it was easier than spending 2 hours at happy hour
every time he wanted to use it.

but probably not as much fun as the Happy Hour First method.

Can you please elaborate on this a bit. I don't have office 97, 2000 or 2003

If you mean Windows XP Pro when you say XP Pro, then Speech is *not* part of
that. If you mean Office XP Pro, it is a part of that. If you mean you do
not have Office but do have a stand-alone copy of FrontPage, then that's how
you have Speech. Tom's link will tell you how to turn it off. (Tom's a
pretty smart guy! ;-) )

I have Windows XP Pro and a stand alone version of FP2003. Thanks for your
help. I finally have it off.

I would simply turn the mike off. It gives you the opportunity to use Voice
Recognition if you want to (assuming you might want to), and second, it
prevents you from having your mike on when you don't want to be overheard.
After all, you have a mike for some good reason, I would expect. Probably
have a web cam too. Keeping in the habit of turning these off when not in
use will prevent embarassing errors.
