How to remove Vista boot?

Hi All:

I apologize if this is a repeat of previous messages.

I installed Vista on a second drive on my system for testing purposes and
have XP on my primary drive. I've removed the Vista drive (after doing my
required testing) and still get the boot menu which includes Vista. How can
I revert my system back to not knowing about Vista?

Never mind. I just had to rewrite the boot sector. All is fine now. Sorry
for the noise.
 
An easy way would have been to have kept your Vista drive in situ for a few
more minutes, downloaded VistaBootPro (www.vistabootpro.org) installed this
free application on the vista partiton and then run it. Once the
vistabootpro application opens all you have to do is click the bootloader
tab and click on the check box next to the option to 'remove the vista boot
loader'. This will return you back to your XP boot loader. After rebooting
the dual boot menu will no longer be visible and you will boot directly into
XP. Now you can remove your Vista drive.
This is a lot less hassle than having to rewrite the boot sector.

I'm not sure I understand why you say it is less hassle than rewriting the
boot sector. All I had to do was boot into the recovery console and run
"fixboot". Am I missing something?
 
No you are not missing anything. I suppose, time wise, my option would take
somewhat long to perform, assuming you hadn't already downloaded a copy of
vistabootpro. It was just another suggestion. This being the method i, and
many other MVPs, usually recommend for removing the Vista bootloader.
