Hi, How to remove a pinned file on Start Menu by editing
registry?
I know one way that right click on file and
select "unpin this file". But, since I installed SP2, I
have problem with right-click issue. So I wonder there is
another way to remove a pinned file on Start Menu.
Please help. Thanks

The web site only show how to disable pinned list but not
remove. I don't want to disable it. I just want to delete
one file in it. Do you have any location where I can
delete it in the registry or somewhere else on the
computer?

Why is there no programmatic access to the Start menu pin list?:

( In Windows XP we intentionally did not give programmatic access to the
bold list of items at the top of the Start menu (the "pin list"). The pin
list is for users to put their favorite icons. It is not the place for a
program to decide unilaterally, "I am so cool. I am your favorite icon. I
just know it. So I'll put myself there because, well, I'm so cool."

While looking in the Registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage\Favorites),
I can locate the link in a REG_BINARY stored value. in order to modify or
alter this on a global scale is next to impossible. )

Hi John,

Right click, Unpin from Start Menu. There is a way to prohibit a program
from being listed from frequently used via the registry.....but Pin and
Unpin is pretty straight forward.
