There is no way to recover the password with a Microsoft
tool (to my knowledge). There is, however, a tool on the
market created in Germany and sold in this country called
NTACCESS. It costs $70. It allows the user to create
floppy disks to log onto any XP or 2000 system (including
DCs). The password for the administrator is automatically
set to 'password' so the system can be accessed. Of
course, once the system is accessed as administrator and
with the reset password, a new password should be
created. I use this program when my students set a
password other than the one they have been assigned. It
is necessary, often, to troubleshoot the system between
classes. A great tool, but very dangerous in the hands of
the wrong person.
