I have one computer that inserts the day of the week on the date line. I have
tried to reformat the date line, but it keeps inserting the day of the week.
How can I fix this?

Assuming that this is some sort of a date field, you can edit the underlying
field code so that it fits the format you want. Press Alt+F9 to show the
field code. You should see something like this: { DATE \@ "DDDD MMMM DD
YYYY" }.

Tell us which format you want, and we can tell you how to achieve it.

As Stefan says, you can edit the field code directly. If the date field is
in the letter template, that's where you need to edit it (see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/DateFields.htm for more information on
the field syntax). But if you're inserting the date using Alt+Ctrl+D, then
Word is using the format you selected as the default in Insert | Date and
Time. Open that dialog, select the format you prefer, and click Default...
