how to remove programs from startup

every time i boot up my computer, it automatically tries to connect to AOL. i do not want this to happen but am not sure how to stop it from doing this. it will not completely boot up until i connect it the modem to a phone line and allow it to dial into AOL. please tell me how to remove AOL from the boot up/start up process. thanks.

First, open C:\documents and settings\(your user name)\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup and delete any programs in there that you do not want
to run when you start your computer.

Second, click Start, click Run, and type msconfig. On the General tab, click
Selective Startup. On the Startup tab, unselect the box for any program that
you do not want to run when you start your computer.

When you restart your computer, you will see a notification message about
Selective Startup. You can click the button to "Do not show this message
again" and then click OK.

(You can undo the Selective Startup by selecting "Normal Startup" on the
General tab in msconfig.)

First, go to Start... All Programs...Startup and make

sure that AOL is not in this folder. If it is, just
delete. This will not delete program, just the startup of
the program. It AOL is not there, go to Start... Run and
type MSCONFIG. This will give you a listing of all
programs that are started at bootup. You can uncheck any
that you do not want to bootup at startup.

Right click on the aol tray icon and select "Autostart Options." Make the
necessary selection for no autostart.
