How to remove password requirement on LAN

I have a network set up between two computers via a router. I'm using Win2000. When I
want to transfer files from one computer to the other I open My Network Places and
double click on the icon for the other computer. When I do that a screen comes up
titled "Enter Network Password" and I have to enter the correct user name and password
to be able to access the other computer.

I'd like to eliminate this password/username requirement but I'm not sure how to do it.
The requirement is on both sides, so if I try the access from the other computer to the
main computer I get the same screen. Can someone give me some ideas where I would look
for these passwords so I can eliminate them.

These access passwords are not connected with starting up Win2000, they seem to be
strictly for access on the network.

In peer to peer networking, you need to create identical user accounts on
each pc. The problem should go away.

If you are in a peer-to-peer network (versus server-client), you need to
create both users on both machines and allow them to have rights on the
shared folders (if Everyone is not available) or give them admin rights to
browse the entire drive.

Rob,

How would I know if I have a peer to peer networking setup or a server-client one?

2 ways, 1st is to log onto each computer with EXACTLY the same name
and password. The other is to enable the guest account on each. The
guest account is under my computer, properties, manage, local users
and groups, users, guest, properties, uncheck the "account is
disabled" box. Be warned this lets ANY one from ANY other computer on
your network access your computer. You do still need to share
something on each computer or you still won't be able to get in.

If I set up the guest accounts, or even two accounts with identical user names and
passwords, is that the same as creating new user profiles? And would that mean I'd have
to set up the entire desktop for each one to match what I presently have. Or is there a
way to get the desktops(and all the program icons) to match. That would be a lot of
work in my case as I have many icons, so it would be great if I could copy one profile
to the other (if this is even necessary).

Do it thru enabling the guest account. MUCH easier and faster. MUCH
less secure but for a home it is okay.
And no enabling the guest account just lets anyone access your
computer without asking for a name or password. I am talking about the
lan access not the logon part. You still have to logon to the physical
comuter with a user name and password. Just once it is up to the main
screen anyone on the lan will have access.

All you would have to do is under the administration tools setup a lan
acess account under all of your computers then use this name and password
to acess any pc on the lan and then setup your permissions so that you have
that account acess exactly what you want it to.
