Greetings all,

I recently re-built my XP pro system after a crash, and somehow I
installed 2 copies of it. So when I reboot, it asks me which OS to
use. While both are the same (different name), it delays the boot
process while it times out and chooses the first one or waits for me
to do the selection. I don't want to have to give user input while
rebooting, and also don't want the delay of the timeout counter.

I see both OS names in the boot.ini file, but surely it can't be as
simple as deleting one of those appearances can it?

Thanks,
Barb

Though all you have to do is delete the unwanted entry,
you need to be sure you are do not delete the entry you are booted to!

Almost that simple. Be sure you delete the right one (under [operating
systems], and the 'default= points at that one. You might also set the
timeout to 3. After saving it and restarting Windows you can also delete the
old directory for Windows if you like.
The setting for which default can be done at start/run, type:

msconfig

The Boot.ini tab.
