What do you mean, replace?

If you use View | Rulers, you can drag the little indent markers around on
the ruler to place them where you want them. Press Ctrl while doing so to
have finer control over placement.

I mean how to remove them they seem to appear when I don't want them and I
can't get rid of them, I know I can move them on the ruller but that isn't
what I want to do.

Remove them on the slide master using the same technique you'd use on an
individual slide.

They appear when you've got bulleted text indented. For each level of indent
you remove, PPT removes an indent marker from the ruler.

I'm curious ... why does it matter whether they're there or not.
