We have windows 2003 server. Its a DC named SRELSBO. Later on I installed
another another 2000 server named SRELBB with ADS & DNS in same forest. But
later on few error occured & I had to uninstalled ADS on SRELSBO. but it
failed to remove. So I had to format the server.
My problem is that whenever users login on client PC they still view the
SRELBB domain in login window. How should I remove this???????????

Your message is terribly confusing in relation to domain
vs. DC -- did you remove all of the DCs for an entire DOMAIN,
or are you merely talking about one DC?

The right way to remove an abandoned domain from
the forest is very similar to the method used to remove
a single abandoned DC from a domain.

You must first remove all such DCs from the abandoned
domain then perform the "metadata cleanup" on the domain
itself.

NTDSutil metadata cleanup"

Search Google for:

[ NTDSutil "metadata cleanup" remove DC Domain ]

No need to add either site:microsoft.com OR microsoft:
since the NTDSutil and other terms make it Microsoft specific
by itself.

Unless you WISH to restrict answers to the site:microsoft.com
for some reason.

[ NTDSutil "metadata cleanup" remove DC Domain site:microsoft.com ]

Key points to NOTE when doing the metadata cleanup:

You CONNECT to a WORKING DC.
You SELECT the missing/dead DC or DOMAIN

'Connect' and 'Select' are technical terms in this context.

It's not clear what happened. From what you wrote it seems like:

You created a DC in the forest root domain called SRELSBO.
You then created a new DC called SRELBB in the same forest (is it in the
same domain?)
Then there was a problem on SRELSBO - you couldn't demote the server so you
reformatted it.
Now when clients login to a PC the Domain their PC's belong to is the one
that was hosted by the DC called SRELBB.

What is not clear is what the domain structure is, compared to the server
names. It is critical to understand how many domains there are (one or
many) and how many DC's you have. If you could provide a listing of the
domains, showing what DC's exist in each domain, that would be very helpful
in helping you resolve the issue with the client login.

If you have a single domain and these were just two DC's in the same domain,
it's probably a reasonably simple fix but if you've got multiple domains it
could be somewhat more complicated.

Please post the additional information so we can help with the resolution.

Thanks,

you need to clean the metadata of the DC that was demoted and the domain it
was from (assuming it was the only DC)

besides that remove the domain from the trust list (domains and trusts MMC)
if the domain metadata cleanup does not do it already

thnks mike...
See we had 2 DC in same forest. Both were independent. SRELSBO is on 2003
server & SRELBB on 2000 server. SRELBB was not in same Domain. Both had
different Domain Trees. SRELBB corrupted & failed to remove ADS. so i
formatted it. . Now there is only one DOMAIN Controller named SRELSBO as
root Domain.

So you had two domains with only one DC each.

You have (improperly) removed one DC and thus
one Domain.

You need to follow the links that I gave you (as did
others) in this thread to do the "ntdsutil metadata cleanup"

Here is that info again:
