How to remove an incomplete partition

We just recently picked up a computer from a local Rent
to Own facility, one that had been used before. The
people that had it before us apparently were going to
install the Windows XP twice on the computer. However,
while one install works perfectly (the main one) the
other one cannot start because it says there is some kind
of problem with the hard disk. I am unsure of the exact
message, I can get that copied down and then submit it
under this posting. But if anybody has any hints as to
how to remove this, it would be greatly appreciated. I
have already tried putting the system restore disk in and
going to that partition, but nothing happened. For the
time being, I have adjusted the "Time to display OS
choice" option to 0 so it will bypass it on startup.
Thank you.

Sincerenly,

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
