Hi, is is possible in the registry to remove a toolbar item from Windows
Explorer, so that it is NOT removed from the toolbar menu in Intyernet
Explorer ?
Let me explain:
After making the toolbars becoming into sync again, I notice an odd thing:
The toolbar "Norton Internet Security" is to find in Internet Explorer as
well as Windows Explorer. In Internet Explorer it is set up from the menu
View->Toolbars, and when checked here it appears as a separate toolbar.
In Windows Explorer it is also represented in the menu view->toolbars, but
when you try to check it nothing happens, the menu item "Norton Internet
Security" does not work at all (and it has frankly nothing to do and no
function in Windows Explorer)
I would appreciate if somone could inform me on how to REMOVE this item
("Norton Internet Security") from the view-Toolbars menu in Windows Explorer
only, please. I still wants it to be available from Internet Explorer as
described above.

Thanks, Anders.

Hi PA
What an excellent reply - if Symantec support could give me a useful advise,
I would not put the subject question in this forum....right?

I guess what Mr Bear was trying to say that The Norton Security Bar was
placed on the windows explorer toolbar by the Nortons toolbar installation
program and that therefore it is their responsibility to advise you on how
to remove it, as I am sure the license agreement will say that you cannot
reverse engineer or alter their software (software is LICENSED not sold ...
unfortunately)

But FYI you will find some interesting values under the following registry
key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer

I would suggest that you export the key before you make changes so that you
can restore the original values.

You can find out more about how Band Objects work by doing a search of msdn
for Band Objects. This will explain how the registry entries create the hook
to the band objects from IExplore.exe and Explorer.exe.

Hi Rob.

Thanks for your kind reply. It was my hope that Symantec support would be
able to correct this issue as the menu item works in Internet Explorer but
unfortunately not in Windows Explorer.
I'm familiar with the registry settings under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer,
where deleting the IToolbarLayout subkey bring the toolbars back into sync.
It did, however, not fix this issue. When clicking on View->Toolbars->Norton
Internet Security in Windows Explorer, nothing simply happens. You cannot
check/uncheck this item.
I will follow your advise and see if I can find useful information in MSDN
for Band Objects. It seems a bit tricky as deleting the toolbar removes the
toolbar both in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, using for instance
ToolbarCop...
If you have further advise I would appreciate if you would let me know.
Thanks again, Rob, for your interest.
Best regards
Anders

FWIW I doubt one can disable it in Windows Explorer but not in Internet
Explorer, as the 2 are closely intertwined. Try typing a URL into Windows
Explorer Address Bar and clicking GO, or clicking on a dropdown item under
Favorites in the same window: You can browse using Windows Explorer.

Hi Robear
I have the impression that both Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer uses
the same ressources in regard to toolbars. As you indicate, I will again try
to address this issue to Symantec Authorized Support.

Again thanks for your kind interest in this matter.
Best regards
Anders
