Hi, I am a first timer and don,t know much about computers.... I would need some help with the below

I have 2 computers, 1 notebook running xp home and one desktop in the office running xp pro. I want to remote desktop the office desktop. Some people told me that I don,t have the remote desktop feature on the home edition but

I did go to Microsoft Support Remote desktop and they write the following: The remote desktop software is pre-installed in windows xp. This software package can also be found on the win xp pro and win xp home edition product cd's.

It seems to me that I do have remote desktop on my home notebook
I have the connection wizard, remote desktop connection and the log on window appears. I did all this, I just don,t know what to put in to get connected. When I try it I get this message: The client cannot connect to the remote computer. Remote connection might not be enabled or computer might be too busy to accept new connections…

Thats were the problem starts: Log on window: IP Address, Domain, Password etc. where do I get all these informations

I did enable the desktop to receive remote access, left it running, it is connected with dsl

Could someone help me from there? Please as detailed and as much for a dummy as possible. I did got to the Microsoft how to page, but I still can't get it done.

Thanks al lot.

You don't need XP pro to do remote desktop if you are trying you want to
connect from the notebook to the desktop. The Pc that is going to be the
host it's the want that need to be WinXP Pro.

Regarding to your problem, Do you have a firewall in you office? If so, did
you open the port for remote desktop connection?

Since you enabled Remote Desktop at the office then you simply need to call that PC using the public
IP of the PC. If the PC is behind a firewall/NAT/route then TCP Port 3389 needs to be forwarded to
the private LAN IP of the office PC. In that case you call using the public IP of the
firewall/NAT/router. I suggest you contact your office network administrators for help with that.
Also make sure the office PC has a user with a password and the user must be a member of the Remote
Desktop Users Group. Look at these pages for help...

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gomobile/remotedesktop/default.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/focuson/remotedesktop.asp

Note that you really need to contact the work network administrators about this. They have the
technical details and you need to consider if it is allowed by your company security policies...

I am the only person in my office. There is no administrator... it's me.
What does all this mean: If the PC is behind a firewall/NAT/route then TCP Port 3389 needs to be forwarded t
the private LAN IP of the office PC. In that case you call using the public IP of the firewall/NAT/router
So were do I get all the information: what's the above, what's the right IP address, whats the password, what's my username, am I in the workgoup, I really don't have a clue

Please repsond again
