What is the name of the API I need to reinvent video conferencing with cheap

At first I thought this was a joke as we are in the microsoft forum. I did
check out JMF and was extrememly pleased to see references to transmission
protocols and sample java code. But now that I have not seen any (more)
responses should I conclude that Microsoft has nothing to offer and live
instant messenger uses some propietary API that is not published? Should we
abandon C# in favor of Java for these types of applications?
