how to reinstall

hello,

my win xp home edition was preinstalled and i was given a 'product recovery'
disk at time of purchase. it has been 2 yrs and i have a dirty c drive and
want to do a clean install. upon accessing the CD, i rec msg that version
of windows on my computer is newer then disk and it does not give me an
option to override? can someone tell me how to get around this msg?

Just delete the partition first and then install using your recovery disk.

Evidently Windows Service Pack 2 has been installed which "makes" the
installed Windows a "newer" version than the original CD which does not
include SP2.
Options are 1. Uninstall SP2 via Control Panel 2. Use newer CD which
includes SP2 3. Create a"Slipstream" CD (Combines the CD files with SP2
files).
Explain "dirty c drive"??

"Bud's" suggestion is probably the best solution - make sure you back up
data you wish to preserve - the restore cd sets up the computer as
originally purchased.

i ran the command: fsutil query dirty and it came back that my c drive was
'dirty'...

for some reason i am not given the option to delete the partion b4 the
install?

do not know why, any help would be appreciated
