I need to reinstall these two programs as neither is working. But my computer
came with XP already installed on it so I don't have a disk. Can anyone else
tell me how to do this?

Not unless you tell us what two programs you need to reinstall. (And
perhaps why you think they'd have been included on a WinXP CD.)

As for lacking the WinXP installation CD, the OEM is contractually
obligated to have provided you with some means of restoring the computer
to its original, ex-factory state. Simply follow the manufacturer's
recovery instructions in the manuals that came with the computers (or
consult the manufacturers' web sites).

Oh sorry - I need to reinstall Add or Remove Programs function. The remove
button does not show up and I've tried all other fixes I can find. I did find
a post that helped me reinstall system restore. I'm leary of putting my
recovery disk in - i dont' think it allows me to pick and choose programs to
reinstall.

Have you attempted to let WinXP repair itself? "Start > Run > SFC
/Scannow?" It may ask for the WinXP installation CD; if it does, simply
point it to the c:\i386 folder that should have been placed on the hard
drive by the manufacturer.

Alternatively, you might try asking amongst your friends to see if any
of them have an unbranded, generic OEM installation CD that you can
borrow for this purpose, and that would work with your OEM Product Key.
(A retail CD wouldn't help, in this case.)

True enough. OEM Recovery CDs are usually an "all or nothing" type of
process.

You are most likely correct - a reinstall would wipe everything on your
disk.

The best course (if you are contemplating doing that) is to copy all
your *data* (pictures, documents, mail, etc) to a CD or DVD, and ensure
that you have enough information and files to reinstall any non-OS
applications and games that you have (such as 'paid for' apps and even
MS and non-MS games, downloaded utilities and so on).

You *should* back this stuff up regularly anyway.

Cheers,

Cliff
